Other than a tent, what are the must have items when going on a camping trip?
54Camping is one of the world's all time favorite outdoor sports. It can be loads of fun or it can be a nightmare if you are not prepared. If you forget some of the major necessities it might not be much fun. Camping can be a great family time fun and you do not usually have to travel far to enjoy yourself. Camping is a regular way of enjoying life for many people.
There are several types of "camping out" and you have to determine which type you are going to do so you know which items to pack and which ones you will not need. There are some basic needs that you will need no matter what kind of camping you are going to do. It also depends on where you will be camping because of the weather differentials in different locations. If you are camping in the mountains (you might need bear spray! LOL!), you will definitely need a lot more blankets or a mighty thick sleeping bag than you will need if you are camping by the lake or river in 90 degree weather. There are also battery operated fans available today that make it handy in real hot weather.
Some of the items you will need are blankets or sleeping bag, bug spray, food, matches or lighter (or both in case they get wet), a tent, extra clothing, toothbrush, toothpaste, clean water, grill (unless you are going to build a campfire), utensils for cooking, pots and pans, cooler with drinks and meats, towels/washcloths, hairbrush/comb, deoderant. soap (both for washing dishes and washing body), coffeepot (this is good for making coffee, tea, and just heating water if you have access to electricity) There are also pots you can set on a canpfire. You will also need a few tools such as a hammer to pound in the stakes to the tent. Rope sometimes comes in handy too. Trash bags to put trash in and also to put other things in if it looks like rain.
If you are going to fish, you will need your fishing poles, plenty of bait, and fishing tackle. If you are just camping and hiking, you will not need the fishing equipment.
Last but not least, it might be fun to take along a partner to enjoy the trip with!

Water and the first aid kit should always be packed first. Good hub. thanks
Before I decided "roughing it" was the hotel's ice machine being more than 50 feet from my room...LOL!...my camping equipment included TWO of those hanging canvas bags with a short hose at the bottom for showering at sites with no public shower facilities. One bag isn't enough. If you want hot water, fill them in the morning and leave in the sun all day. And don't forget to pack a regular shower curtain (or liner) to tie to branches and such for PRIVACY!
When I was young we once accidentally 'packed' the cat who hid in our small travel trailer. I would recommend NOT taking the cat.
That would be really interesting and bad. A cat on a camping trip. So much for a no leak tent. LOL
Thanks for the informative hub. Definitely good advice! Tips in the comments are most useful too. Thanks for sharing :)

One thing I have had borrowed from me more then anything when we are camping is a can opener. Seems people always remember the food, but not how to get it open. LOL
